Mail bag (part V): Seesaws vs. teeter-totters

"See-saw" seems to be an eastern term based on my survey of two people from the midwest and far west who call them "teeter-totters." In kindergarten I jumped off the teeter-totter when my end was on the ground. The other rider plunged, the teacher scolded me, and now I think teeter-totters are scary.

What do you call these simple machines: t-totters or s-saws? Why "see-saw?" What's that all about? "I see; you saw???" Do you think that "teeter-totter" sounds kind of wussy?

Stupid google trick: Math

Just type in the math problem and hit enter. Ok, I didn't believe it at first. Could google really do math? I just had to try it out.

3 + 2 = 5

(3 + 2) * 9 = 45

Well that's nice. But how about the harder stuff.....

((8^2) + 6) / sqrt(100) = 7

Yup, I like hburgnews.com Mainly because so many of our readers come from there. But also because I sometimes learn something useful...... like which roads to avoid because of ice.

Local blog of the week: Part Time Gamer

Golly, a whole blog devoted to video games. What's the latest on Atari? Just kidding.....

It appears to be run by two guys, Brian and Justin, and while the title suggests they are gamers only part time, I don't believe it. From the looks of the blog they do games full time, how else could they come up with so much to say about video games? Oh, BINGO! Maybe they use our very first stupid google trick and search video game related words to find things to post about.

Looks like things have come a long way since Pac-man and Space Invaders. Gone are the days of a poorly defined pie graph munching trix and mutated jelly fish attacking a chess pawn. No, now you can be a rifle toting white guy shooting diseased Africans. Much more thrilling!

Forget wasting a trip downtown just to find the library doesn't have the book you want. Check online before you guzzle that gas. Hey, and if you like to avoid the downtown riffraff you can use one of the other locations. There's even a branch in Bergton.

Mail bag (part IV)

Are you wearing socks with holes in them? When I was a kid, my mom used to sew the holes up, but it left a weird seam over my toes. Ugh!!! Now when I have holes in my socks, I kind of bunch the material together (usually between my big toe and second toe) and stuff my foot into a shoe. After the hole covers two toes, I turn them into dust cloths. Do you think I'm lazy? What do you do with your holey socks?

Great Stuff is really great stuff. Kind of like caulk but much more fun to use. Where have you used Great Stuff?

Toe to toe: Dogs vs kids

Dogs keep you up at night, puke on the carpet, eat thing found laying in the yard, leave muddy footprints on your newly mopped floor and don't let you know they need a potty break until it's too late.

Kids, well, same goes for them.

Dogs reward you with sloppy kisses and an excuses to go to the park and play catch.

Kids do the same with the added bonus of unrecognizable paintings to hang on you refrigerator.

Winner: If you think it's even comparable you obviously don't have kids.

How can you not love the spork. It's like an American icon. What's more American than a plastic wrapped Taco Bell fork? Nothing. That's what. Only problem is they don't last very long. Toe to toe: markers vs crayons

Ooooo, this is a toughie!

My first thought is to declare markers the winner. These puppies are a joy to color with, and are energy efficient as well. You don't have to expend any extra energy to get add nice vivid colors to your artwork. They glide over the paper so nice like a slug on an oil slick. Goodbye hand cramps. But......

Crayons are just so darn versatile and they come in a wider selection of colors. You can color lightly or darkly, you can make leaf rubbings, you can press real hard and make a picture and then cover the picture in black paint and make some super neat things to hand on the fridge. You can even make your own multicolored carbon paper. And they melt. Yup, crayons are really cool.

Winner: Crayons.... unless the markers are scented, then it's a toss up

Homework excuses

I made a paper plane out of it and it got hijacked.

I left it in a hymn book in the choir loft, having used it to mark my solo.

I didn't do my homework because I hurt my hand playing with Wii.

What would you do if you noticed someone's wardrobe was about to malfunction or in the process of malfunctioning? Do you speak up and let them know or look away and say nothing?

Stupid google trick: spelling

Google is great to use when you don't know how to spell a word. Just type your best guess and Google reads you mind and says "Did you mean-----?" Gets it right almost every time.

Toe to toe: bar soap vs liquid body wash

There's something nice and solid about good old fashioned bar soap. It always leaves behind a clean fresh scent. And this stuff is cheap too. And lasts forever, unless you accidently leave it behind in a tub full of water.

I like the variety of scents the liquid wash comes in. I turns the every day, same ol' same ol' shower into a tropical experience. I can just hear the ukulele lazily strumming in the background while the scent of coconut and orchids envelopes me.

Eyebrows

My eyebrows are not perfectly symmetrical. I think the one on the left side of the mirror arches slightly more and the one on the right is a little fuller. Tell me about your eyebrows. Do you tweeze or wax?

Mail bag (part II)

Do you make hot cocoa from a recipe, buy it in a box, or do you drink tea?

Oh, sweet cocoa! Those seemingly water proof packets filled with chocolaty sugary powdery just waiting to be lovingly stirred into steaming hot water. Be still my heart. And to think that it can get even better. Yup, marshmallows. sigh Those little rock hard balls of floating goodness melting into the inky depths of heaven in a mug. Take me away!
